FAA is evaluating a future amendment to its regulations to permit firefighters to be transported to and from the site of a wildfire aboard certain restricted category aircraft when the purpose of that transportation is to permit those firefighters to perform ground wildfire suppression. The amendment would apply to civil aircraft operations and public aircraft operations when the restricted category aircraft is owned by a civilian operator. This action responds to a statutory mandate, and FAA has determined it needs additional information to address both the mandate and the assessment of its economic impact. This ANPRM invites public comments on the current availability of firefighter transportation resources, hindrances and needs influencing their transport, and cost-benefit considerations affecting the transport of firefighters on certain aircraft.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all BRP-Rotax GmbH & Co KG (Rotax) Model 912 F2, 912 F3, 912 F4, 912 iSc2 Sport, 912 iSc3 Sport, 912 S2, 912 S3, 912 S4, 914 F2, 914 F3, and 914 F4 engines; and Model 912 A1, 912 A2, 912 A3, and 912 A4 engines included as part of the type-certificated aircraft type design for various aircraft. This AD requires a one-time visual inspection of the propeller gearbox to determine if the oil spray nozzle and certain screws are installed and, depending on the results, replacement of the propeller gearbox with a serviceable propeller gearbox. This AD also prohibits the installation of an affected propeller gearbox on any engine unless certain conditions are met. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2025-26-03, which applies to certain Rolls-Royce Deutschland Ltd & Co KG (RRD) Model Trent 1000-A, Trent 1000-AE, Trent 1000-C, Trent 1000- CE, Trent 1000-D, Trent 1000-E, Trent 1000-G, and Trent 1000-H engines. AD 2025-26-03 requires repetitive borescope inspections (BSIs) of the high-pressure compressor (HPC) rear drum cavity and cavities between each HPC rotor disc, and depending on the results of inspection, removal of the engine from service. AD 2025-26-03 also allows an alternative method of complying with the repetitive BSIs if certain actions are accomplished. Since the FAA issued AD 2025-26-03, RRD published updated service material with a revised bolting arrangement at the HPC rotor shaft to high-pressure turbine (HPT) rotor disc interface to address the unsafe condition. This proposed AD would require repetitive BSIs of the HPC rear drum cavity and cavities between each HPC rotor disc, and depending on the results of inspection, removal of the engine from service. This proposed AD would also allow an alternative method of complying with BSIs if certain actions are accomplished, and require modification of the bolting arrangement as a terminating action for the repetitive BSIs. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

The FAA proposes to supersede Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2022-15-01, which applies to certain The Boeing Company Model 787-8, 787-9, and 787-10 airplanes. AD 2022-15-01 requires inspecting certain vertical fin tension bolt holes; reviewing the bolt sealant application installation procedure in the existing maintenance or inspection program, as applicable; checking maintenance records to determine the replacement status of vertical fin tension bolts; and doing applicable on-condition actions. Since the FAA issued AD 2022-15-01, the FAA has determined that optional sealant types allowed by that AD may not provide sufficient time to complete all bolt installations. The FAA has also received additional reports of corrosion that, in some cases, was more severe than expected. As a result, the FAA has determined that the compliance times for certain actions must be reduced. This proposed AD would, for certain airplanes, continue to require certain actions required by AD 2022-15-01 with reduced compliance times. For certain airplanes, this proposed AD would also require reviewing maintenance records to determine whether a correct sealant application method was used and performing applicable on-condition actions. The FAA is proposing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

This action extends the comment period for a NPRM titled "Transport Airplane and Propulsion Certification Modernization" that was published on June 26, 2026. In that document, FAA proposed to amend various airworthiness regulations to modernize certain certification standards for transport category airplanes and propulsion systems. This rule would be both deregulatory and relieving by reducing the number of exemptions, special conditions, and equivalent level of safety findings required during the certification process. FAA expects that this proposal would reduce certification costs and time to certify new and changed products for both industry and FAA while maintaining or increasing the level of safety provided by the current regulations. AD 2022-20-11 requires visually inspecting the external surface of the tail rotor (TR) gearbox support assembly, borescope inspecting or visually inspecting the inside of the tail boom, and performing a tactile inspection. The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2026-13- 05, which applied to all The Boeing Company Model 737-8, 737-9, and 737-8200 airplanes. AD 2026-13-05 required revising the existing airplane flight manual (AFM) to provide the flightcrew with operating procedures (non-normal checklists) if a certain circuit breaker in the standby power control unit (SPCU) trips or certain environmental control system (ECS) circuit breakers downstream of the SPCU trip. The FAA is superseding Airworthiness Directive (AD) 2025-21- 03, which applied to certain CFM International, S.A. (CFM) Model LEAP- 1A23, LEAP-1A24, LEAP-1A24E1, LEAP-1A26, LEAP-1A26CJ, LEAP-1A26E1, LEAP-1A29, LEAP-1A29CJ, LEAP-1A30, LEAP-1A32, LEAP-1A33, LEAP-1A33B2, and LEAP-1A35A engines. AD 2025-21-03 required initial and repetitive borescope inspections (BSIs) of the high-pressure turbine (HPT) rotor stage 1 blades. Depending on the results of the BSIs, AD 2025-21-03 required either additional BSIs at reduced intervals or replacement of the HPT rotor stage 1 blades. Since the FAA issued AD 2025-21-03, the manufacturer published updated service material and determined that engines operating in the South Asia region are susceptible to accelerated HPT rotor stage 1 blade deterioration and airfoil distress. This AD requires initial and repetitive BSIs of the HPT rotor stage 1 blades and, depending on the results of the inspections, additional BSIs at reduced intervals or replacement of the HPT rotor stage 1 blades. The FAA is issuing this AD to address the unsafe condition on these products.

This action proposes special conditions for the Gulfstream Model G300 airplane. This airplane, as modified by Gulfstream, will have a novel or unusual design feature when compared to the state of technology envisioned in the airworthiness standards for transport- category airplanes. This design feature is side-facing seats, oriented in the aircraft with the occupant facing 90 degrees to the direction of aircraft travel, with or without incorporation of an airbag systems or inflatables. The applicable airworthiness regulations do not contain adequate or appropriate safety standards for this design feature. These proposed special conditions contain the additional safety standards that the Administrator considers necessary to establish a level of safety equivalent to that established by the existing airworthiness standards.

The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for all Airbus Canada Limited Partnership Model BD-500-1A10 and BD-500-1A11 airplanes. The FAA previously sent this AD as an emergency AD to all known U.S. owners and operators of these airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report of several missing or broken high pressure valve (HPV) butterfly clips found in a repair shop. This AD prohibits dispatching an airplane under certain dispatch provisions corresponding to master minimum equipment list (MMEL) items for the wing anti-ice system, wing anti ice pressure sensor, fan air valve (FAV), bleed air systems, engine bleed pressure regulating shutoff valve (PRSOV), HPV, and pack bleed air leak and overheat detection loop; and prohibits dispatching an airplane if certain crew alerting system (CAS) messages and associated info messages are displayed. Since the FAA issued AD 2024-25-10, the FAA has determined that additional engine models are affected by the unsafe condition and that the required inspections should be repetitive. This AD requires, for certain engines, a one-time set of on-wing visual and dimensional inspections of the main fuel hose assembly of the fuel manifold to confirm softness, compliance, and lack of resistance, and for shrinkage, cracks, chafing, dents, kinks, necking, and degradation of the hose braid wire and, if necessary, replacement of the main fuel hose assembly of the fuel manifold. This AD also requires, for certain other engines, on-wing and in-shop repetitive visual and dimensional inspections of the main fuel hose assembly of the fuel manifold to confirm softness, compliance, and lack of resistance, and for shrinkage, cracks, chafing, dents, kinks, necking, and degradation of the hose braid wire and, if necessary, replacement of the main fuel hose assembly of the fuel manifold. This AD also expands the applicability to include certain RRD Model Trent XWB-75, Trent XWB-79, Trent XWB-79B, and Trent XWB-84 engines. This AD also provides criteria for installation of an affected part and optional terminating action for the repetitive visual and dimensional inspections. The FAA is adopting a new airworthiness directive (AD) for certain Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation Model GVIII-G700 and GVIII- G800 airplanes. This AD was prompted by a report indicating that a hollow pin cap on the right-side engine aft thrust strut mount interface was found broken due to a missing sleeve bushing. This AD requires a visual inspection of the upper surface of the engine mount to the forward and aft thrust strut mount at the hollow pin head interface, of the left and right engines, for evidence of movement or distress; an inspection of the forward and aft thrust strut mount hardware to ensure the sleeve bushing, nut, washers, and cotter pins are properly installed; and applicable corrective actions. This proposal would advance the United States' leadership in next-generation aviation by replacing the longstanding prohibition on civil supersonic flight over land with a modern, performance-based regulatory framework. Consistent with national policy set forth by the Executive Order of June 6, 2025, Leading the World in Supersonic Flight, this action would enable the safe, efficient, and commercially viable operation of civil supersonic aircraft in the United States. Current regulations prohibit flight operations of civil aircraft at a true flight Mach number greater than 1 in the U.S., except under the conditions and limitations of an operation-specific authorization from the Administrator, to protect the public from sonic boom. FAA has determined the general ban on civil supersonic flight is outdated and no longer appropriate due to advancements in technology, flight techniques that prevent sonic booms from reaching the surface, and increased interest in civil supersonic flight. FAA proposes to repeal this outdated and unnecessary prohibition and establish a corresponding interim noise-based certification standard to allow supersonic flights without an operation-specific special authorization clearing the way for next-generation supersonic flight. This rule removes regulatory barriers, provides clear pathways for testing and early commercial operations, and positions the United States to serve as the leader in setting global standards for supersonic flight. These actions will ensure that the United States leads the world in the safe, lawful, and rapid development and deployment of next-generation supersonic aviation.
