FY 2026 Appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security, specially the AFG, SAFER, and U.S.A.R., programs. The AFG program provides grants to volunteer, combined and career fire departments for critical fire and rescue equipment; SAFER provides funds to fire departments to hire additional first responders; the U.S. Fire Administration provides technical assistance to fire and rescue departments; and the U.S.A.R. program trains and funds a set of local first responder teams that can be deployed by the federal government to respond to all-hazard events.
